  • 3 ounce dry onion soup mix1 envelope
  • 1.5 cup breadcrumbsPanko, or dried/toasted
  • 0.75 cup milk
  • 0.75 cup all-purpose flour
  • 64.5 ounces cream of mushroom soup2-10.5 ounce cans, undiluted
  • 3 tablespoon beef bouillon
  • 1.5 cup water
  • 3-1.5 tablespoons oil
  • Instructions

    • Add crumbs, soup mix, and milk to the ground beef.
    • Mix well - you'll probably need to use your hands.
    • Divide evenly into 8 parts. Form into patties about the size of your palm. Set aside.
    • Mix the cream of mushroom soup, the bouillon, and the water until smooth. Set aside.
    • Heat the oil in the frying pan or multi-cooker.
    • Mix the flour and any seasoning you want to use for dredging. Dredge the patties in the flour covering both sides.
    • Brown the patties on both sides. Add to slow cooker if you've used a frying pan.
    • Pour soup mixture over the beef in the slow cooker.
    • Cover and cook on low for 4 ½ to 5 hours.

    Notes

Crockpot salisbury steaks freeze well after they're cooked. Make your own "frozen dinners" by using meal prep containers and covering with plastic wrap and then aluminum foil. OR freeze a batch in a casserole dish.
    • This recipe is best in a 4 or 6 quart slow cooker.
    • Mix the ground beef with ground pork, ground turkey, or ground chicken if you like.
    • If your family likes mushrooms definitely add as many as you'd like!
    • Leftovers will be fine for 3 days or so when tightly covered and refrigerated.
    • Serve leftovers over toast as a hot, open faced sandwich.
    Variations
    • You can use unflavored non-dairy milk or beef broth in place of the milk but add about a tablespoon of butter or oil to make up for the fat.
    • Gluten free? Use crushed Chex instead of bread crumbs and a gluten free flour for dredging.
    • As ALWAYS if you are on a special diet check your ingredients to make sure they don't contain dairy or gluten.
    • Some people prefer using cubed steaks - that works, too!
    • You can use ground turkey instead of beef.
    • Use cracker crumbs instead of breadcrumbs.
    • Not a fan of mushrooms? Use cream of celery soup instead.
    • Use a package of au jus instead of the bouillon.
    • Make this with meatballs - just add the meatballs right into the gravy no need to dredge or precook.
